Kate Walsh to leave ‘Grey's’ for spinoff

ABC has decided to pursue a “Grey’s” spin-off with sexy neonatal surgeon Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd (played by the lovely Kate Walsh) as the lead character, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal.

The pilot has yet to be finalized and “Grey’s” creator Shonda Rhimes has yet to decide on a title.

However, Rhimes recently filled the cast in on the idea and revealed she will write a special two-hour episode to serve as the pilot, with a likely debut in May, according to the report.Walsh joined the “Grey’s” cast in May 2005, appearing towards the end of the season one finale.

When contacted by Access Hollywood, ABC had no further comment beyond what was in the Wall Street Journal article.

In order to focus on the project, Rhimes has reportedly back-burnered “Correspondents,” another pilot she was working on starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played Katherine Heigl’s patient love interest Denny Duquette.

I gotta say, I'm a little dissapointed. I mean...I love Addison and I would love to see even more of her (plus I think Kate Walsh would be amazing in her own show...probably more a romantic sitcom style thing, cause she's hilarious) BUT...I was just getting into the whole She-Shepherd/Korev thing! They better at least hook up before she runs away to her spin-off.

I wonder if they'll be taking any of the characters with her. Bleck, hopefully not McDreamy. Eric Danes needs to stay put and cause more drama right where he is.

screw you guys.

I think Shonda Rhimes can do anything. Have faith people! This is one of the best television writers/producers to hit the tube in a long time.

I just wanted her to stay with Grey's. The story with her was starting to get really good. I mean come on, McSteamy is even going without sex to get her back... but no, now we have to take her away from the show. Sad times. But i do think that they'll have success with it if it is done right. ABC knows that Grey's has a huge following, not a bad idea to try and make that following watch two nights a week rather than just one, plus people with watch so they can quench their thirst for more Grey's.
