If Gas Prices Weren't So High
I think I'd roadtrip down to Louisianna and volunteer. I could miss a week's worth of classes.
I might have to settle for donations instead though, and encourage everyone else to consider it. I know we're all poor college students, but think of the college students who have had to return home with all of their things left behind, gone. Or those who have no home to even return to. Maybe rather than going to a movie this weekend, spend $10 here instead.

Americas Second Harvest

The situation is much worse than I'd ever imagined one could be in our country.

Wow, you are a generous person. And i will consider it. I won't say yes or no right now, but i will consider it. I can't believe how bad that hurricane was, can you immagine the devastation?? And the gas prices are rediculous. Steph, did you buy your ticket already??? If not i'm guessing the prices are going to increase. I'm hoping that the hurricane victims will stay safe and that the destruction doesn't get worse.

It's hard not to feel the need to be generous when you even read/watch a little of what it's like for them right now. It's literally almost hell. For those that aren't dead, there's no way to leave, there's no food, no water, no way to go to the restroom, you're surrounded by thousands of other people going through the same hell, and no one can do anything about it.
Not to mention the longer-term or bigger pictures. New Orleans is gonna take about another decade to be recover...one getting the water out, rebuilding sewer systems, electrical systems, basically the entire infrastructure of the city, in addition to physical aspects of buildings. And just think about all the alligators, snakes, and other wildlife that is all over needing to be relocated, and the diseases that will be spreading. This will take a LONG time to be okay, once the initial human suffering is taken care of.

Isn't it strange how we can airlift food and water to remote locations in Africa and other countries, yet we have people in our own, in a specific location like the Super Dome, who have been without these necessities for days?

I love my school...Webster getting frantic inquiries from students
attending Tulane and Loyola (and other Gulf colleges) asking if they might be able to attend Webster, so we're immediately making arrangements for these students to become admitted and registered, accepting late transcripts, waiving application fees, and allowing students a late
start into the classroom given this catastrophic event. "Emergency Enrollment Assistance"
